Crown Prince

The Crown Prince is the head of state and head of government. They are elected by the dukes.

What the Crown Prince does

The Crown Prince manages the whole country.

They are in charge of the foreign policy of Pavia, including:

The Crown Prince is vested with the legislative, judicial and executive powers of Pavia. This means they may make any decree, judgment or decision for Pavia. They have impunity to manage the government as they see fit.

With a majority, the Crown Prince may strip a dukedom. The land held by the duke becomes part of the crownland.

The Crown Prince may add a new duke with a majority. The dukes must grant the new duke a parcel of land, either from existing ducal land or from the crownland.

The Crown Prince holds the crownland in trust for Pavia but has the ultimate decision-making power over the lands.

When the Crown Prince is elected

A new Crown Prince is elected if the predecessor:

Dice day

The Crown Prince can die under the dice day rules.

After being in charge for six weeks, the Crown Prince must guess the number on the side of a dice. A computer program will then roll a dice. If the generated number is the same as the guess, the Crown Prince dies. Otherwise, the Crown Prince remains in power for another week when the process repeats. But, for each week the Crown Prince remains alive, they must pick an additional number. This decreases the likelihood that they will remain alive.

Under these rules, the Crown Prince will die on week 12.

The state tabulator, who is elected by the dukes, independently manages and counts all elections.

Assassination

Any duke may assassinate the Crown Prince. The duke must immediately put the pearl in the “Royal Slammer”, which is the formal name of any chest in the Cathedral of Pavia which can be accessed by the other dukes. There is no requirement for there to be a cathedral. While there is no cathedral, it is not clear if a Crown Prince can be assassinated.

If the duke does not strictly comply with these rules, the killing is a “regicide”. The duke may be punished, though no punishment is listed.

If a Crown Prince is lawfully assassinated, they are no longer considered the Crown Prince. There is no body to decide whether a Crown Prince has been lawfully assassinated.

If a Crown Prince is lawfully assassinated and no duke frees them within 24 hours, they are no longer the Crown Prince. A vote is held for a new Crown Prince.

If an assassination is cancelled or ended, no new assassination may be attempted for a calendar week.

If a person other than a duke tries to save the Crown Prince from a lawful assassination attempt, that person can be prosecuted for “regicide”. No punishment is listed.

Abdication

The Crown Prince may also abdicate from the role.

How the Crown Prince is elected

If the Crown Prince dies, resigns or is assassinated, a new Crown Prince is elected by the dukes.

All dukes may vote for the new Crown Prince, with all dukes automatically eligible for election.

The Crown Prince is the duke with the most votes.

If there is no majority, the state tabulator must tell the dukes a tally of votes and request a new ballot until there is a majority.

Votes may only be held on a Saturday.
